A smashing good time!

Pathway's wāhine find unexpected emotional release and positive momentum through therapeutic sessions at Rage Cage Smash Rooms.

Recently, a group of wāhine participating in our support services had the opportunity to visit Rage Cage Smash Rooms—a controlled environment where individuals can safely channel emotions through physical activity. This therapeutic experience allows participants to break items in a secure setting while learning about emotional regulation.

Liv*, one of the women who participated, discovered unexpected benefits beyond the initial release. "I absolutely loved it. It's a healthy way of letting out some anger," she reflects.

"I didn't realise how much anger I had built up in me because I'm trying to live this peaceful life!" she adds with a warm laugh.

The experience created a positive ripple effect throughout her day. "It was soulful; I felt so much lighter afterwards," Liv shares. "Afterwards me and my neighbour went out for a swim, we got housework done and we went out for dinner. It set my day up to be a really good day."

Most importantly, the activity helped Liv recognise her own capacity for creating positive momentum. "I know I need to start looking at other activities to do in my day to set my day up, so it was a learning curve as well as fun."

This initiative represents a new approach in our programming, providing our wāhine with opportunities to explore new experiences in a supportive environment. By engaging in these carefully selected activities, participants develop practical tools for managing emotions, overcoming anxieties, and building the resilience necessary for sustainable positive change.

These transformative experiences help the women we serve discover new strengths and capabilities on their journey toward independence and wellbeing.
